How to Clear Clipboard on Android

Clear Clipboard on Android

If you are one of those people who work on computers or laptops almost every day, you would be using this incredibly useful, often underestimated feature (available in all smart devices) of copy-pasting content. This is more so because many people are working from home these days due to the pandemic. Of course, this is also applicable to your modern Android smartphones. But have you ever wondered where does the system copy this content before you paste it elsewhere? The text (or any other type of content) you copy is temporarily stored on the clipboard. Since it is not an application, you cannot open it directly from your phone’s app drawer. Knowing that the clipboard stores all kinds of data (text, links, images, etc.) you might want to clear it every now and then if you are using a shared device.

Let us look at all the methods and their steps to clear the clipboard on Android:

The laziest way to clear Clipboard on Android

  1. When you are done using your device, hold down the power button, and you will get the option to switch off and reboot your device.
  2. Simply tap on the reboot button and all your clipboard data will be deleted after your phone has been rebooted.

Well, this method is definitely the quickest and easiest, but it is highly unlikely that you will be rebooting your Android phone every time you want to clear your clipboard. So let’s look at some other easy ways to clear the clipboard on Android.

How to clear clipboard on Samsung

Apart from Samsung, you can also use this method to clear the clipboard on those Android phones which do not have a stock Android version, i.e. those phones which also have an additional UI (and bloatware) along with the pure Android version. Phones from manufacturers like Xiaomi are the perfect example. Here are the steps you need to follow to clear the clipboard on such Android phones:

  1. Launch any app that supports copying texts, for example the notes app.
  2. Navigate to the empty space on which you type, now press and hold on that empty space.
  3. You will be presented with options like copy, paste, clipboard, etc. Tap on the clipboard button.
  4. This will take you to the clipboard, where there will be a list of copied contents.
  5. Now tap on the menu/more icon (three dot icon) from the lower right corner of your screen/text area.
  6. Tap on the delete button to delete all the clipboard data on your Android device.

Deleting cache files to clear clipboard on Android

  1. Unlock your phone and launch the settings app from your app drawer.
  2. Scroll down till you find the option of “Apps“, once you do tap on it.
  3. Navigate to be app using which you copied some data to the clipboard.
  4. On the apps’ information tab you will find the option of “Clear Cache“, Or “Clear data”, select it and confirm your action.

Once you clear the cache data, you would also have indirectly cleared the clipboard data on your phone pertaining to that app. So, you might want to clear the cache data of all those apps from which you copied or pasted personal/private data.

Using Third-party apps

There are a lot of apps available on the Google Play Store and the Internet to manage your clipboard on your Android phone. We won’t be discussing them here, as it would quite be impossible to cover each app. On top of that, if you do use such clipboard managers, that app will have complete access to your clipboard. So, we recommend not using them, especially if you handle a lot of sensitive data. But of course, if you just need it for managing public data or for schoolwork, you might like to use a third-party app. Just make sure to check its reviews and privacy policy before downloading it. Some good examples include Clipboard Manager by Doggo Apps and Clipboard Manager by devdnua.
